Join Monica Curtis, senior director of Communities and Decarbonization; Jorden Dye, director of the Business Renewables Centre-Canada; and Jason Wang, senior analyst with the Electricity program, at this year's Alberta Power Symposium, held in-person in Calgary, September 25 and 26.

Jorden will speak on September 25 as part of an 11:15 a.m. roundtable discussion called Advancing Corporate Power Purchase Agreements and Investment Trends in the Post-Pause Era, with co-panelists Vittoria Bellissimo, president and CEO of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association, and Paul McLauchlin, president of Rural Municipalities of Alberta. The panel will review power purchase agreements (PPAs) and renewables investment in Alberta pre- and post-energy pause and assess the response from industry and what to expect in the coming months. They will also discuss the monitoring of regulatory approvals for project development and impacts on municipalities. In addition, the panel will explore the expectations for corporate PPAs in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia and discuss how this might affect Alberta.

Monica will be on a panel discussion at 2:00 p.m. on September 26 called Addressing the Workforce Challenge of Navigating to Net Zero: Developing the Skilled Labour Requirements in the Electricity Sector. The session will explore solutions to finding the talent and skilled workers required for the net-zero economy. Monica's co-panelist is Anita Gara, project manager at Electricity Human Resources Canada, and the conversation will be moderated by Johanne Picard-Thompson, executive vice president of Customer and Corporate Services at AltaLink.

Jason is speaking at 2:45 p.m. on September 26 at a session called Modernizing Transmission and Grid Infrastructure and Exploring Intertie Development to Achieve Decarbonization Goals. Jason and his fellow panelists — Cayla Saby, vice president of Government Relations and Commercial at AltaLink, and Robert (Rob) Baker, director of Alternative & Renewable Energy at Alberta Innovates — will discuss updates to Alberta’s electricity statutes, adapting new technologies, assessing investment opportunities to develop more on-site power and the sale of excess power, and exploring opportunities for cross-jurisdictional development.
