The Pembina Institute (PIAD) is very pleased to announce the addition of four very talented staff to its Environmental Education Program team.
The four new staff come as part of a recent agreement to acquire full interest in an innovative and exciting new on-line environmental education program called Green Learning On-line Alberta.
We are pleased to announce that Kathy Worobec, an environmental educator with 18 years of experience, is joining Pembina as the Acting Education Program Director. Kathy has spent nine years working for Destination Conservation as the Education Program Director and through her consulting company has done work for organizations such as FEESA, utility companies and the City of Edmonton from Canada to Mexico.
David Dodge, a 20-year veteran environmental writer, broadcaster and publisher with such credits as the founding Editor of Borealis Magazine is also joining our organization as the Project Manager of our soon to be announced Green Learning On-line Alberta education program. David has wide ranging experiences in nature publishing, as an award winning photo journalist, editor of several environmental magazines, producer of almost 400 radio programs on the environment and sustainability, and as the recent Program Manager of Destination Conservation.
Cheryl Lepatski, has an education degree and a strong interest in theatre. She has developed and delivered environmental education programs for Destination Conservation for six years. She helped create the Climate Change Challenge environmental education program. She will work full time on Pembina's new Green Learning program.
Jillian Scrimger brings more than a decade of experience in on-line and traditional educational publishing (in both Canada and the UK), in such areas as educational content creation, writing, marketing, research, project management, and intellectual property management. Most recently, Jillian worked for six years at Oz New Media, working on on-line education programs.
"This was a very rare opportunity to acquire a significant critical mass of talent in the area of environmental education and we are extremely pleased to welcome them to the Pembina Institute," said David Pollock, Executive Director of the Pembina Institute.
Most of the efforts of the new staff will be directed at creating an innovative new and soon to be announced environmental education program called Green Learning On-line Alberta.
Green Learning Online was conceived of by the Tomorrow Foundation for a Sustainable Future and the Pembina Institute as a green, web-delivered core learning resource covering the subject areas of Science and Social Studies. It will integrate and cover the topics of climate change, energy efficiency and renewable energy in creative formats designed to meet core learning objectives and engage students in addressing these timely issues.
The program began as a partnership between the Tomorrow Foundation and the Pembina Institute. Effective May 1st, 2003, the Tomorrow Foundation transferred its interest in the project to the Pembina Institute.
"The Pembina Institute wishes to gratefully acknowledge the excellent concept work done by its original Green Learning On-line project partner, the Tomorrow Foundation," said David Pollock.
The Tomorrow Foundation is known for its top quality Destination Conservation program, which will continue to be owned by the Edmonton based Tomorrow Foundation.
Look for more on the formal announcement of Green Learning Online next week, during Environment Week. Meanwhile, join us in welcoming these exciting new members of our education team.
