Towards a Sustainable Electricity System for Ontario: Interim Report

This paper provides an overview of the preliminary findings of the Pembina Institute and Canadian Environmental Law Association Ontario Sustainable Electricity Project. The findings with respect to the potential impact of energy efficiency measures on future electricity demand in the province are highlighted. The Interim Report finds that on the basis of modeling undertaken using the CIMS model developed by the Energy and Materials Research Group at Simon Fraser University, future electricity demand in Ontario could be reduced by 40% by 2020 against business as usuals projections, as a result of the adoption of currently available energy efficient technologies, increased cogeneration, and fuel switching.
