The Northwest Territories is currently pursuing the exploitation of fossil fuel resources and other non-renewable resources, such as diamond mines, to create jobs and resource wealth and thus improve its economy. This brief outlines the various policy tools used by governments to collect revenue from non-renewable resources and describes the funds established by a number of governments into which a portion of revenue from non-renewable resource depletion is dedicated.
