On behalf of the Oilsands Environmental Coalition, the Pembina Institute and Ecojustice filed an affidavit with the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency requesting that the approval of Royal Dutch Shell’s Jackpine Mine and Muskeg River Mine Expansion oilsands projects be re-considered through a new public hearing. This extraordinary step was needed because Shell reneged on written agreements it made with the Oilsands Environmental Coalition to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas pollution at two of its oilsands projects. These agreements were submitted as evidence at public hearings in 2003 and 2006 and informed the approval of these projects.
