Interjurisdictional transmission lines (interties) are crucial for operating a reliable and affordable electricity grid and will play an important role in helping Alberta achieve net-zero emissions by mid-century. New rules should enable modern technologies such as demand-side management and battery energy storage to bring emission reductions, flexibility, and reliability to the grid.
The Pembina Institute welcomes the opportunity that the restructuring efforts offer to begin modernizing Alberta's electricity system and provides the following input on the participation of interties in Alberta’s restructured electricity market (REM).
