Assessing the Potential Uptake for a Remote Community Wind Incentive Program in Canada

A Report for the Canadian Wind Energy Association

Canada has many remote sites that require electricity. Wind-diesel systems present an opportunity for reducing fossil fuel use in many remote areas, to help shelter these communities from fuel price volatility as well as increasing local sustainability. This report assesses the estimated annual wind generation for two categories of remote sites (large communities and industrial facilities, and small remote communities), and outlines the near-term remote wind energy potential for projects that could realistically be implemented within a 10-year time frame.
