CALGARY — Representatives of the Pembina Institute, BluEarth Renewables and Greengate Power made the following statements in response to the Alberta Government’s commitment to procuring renewable energy with carbon revenue from large industrial emitters:

“This legislation demonstrates the government’s firm commitment to ensuring that clean renewable energy makes up a large share of replacement generation as the province phases out coal-fired power. Using revenue from the carbon prices levied on large industrial emitters to support renewables will benefit all Albertans by creating a cleaner, diversified electricity grid.”

– Ed Whittingham, Executive Director of the Pembina Institute

“As an Alberta-based renewable energy developer with assets in the province, we are sincerely impressed with the Government's renewable procurement announcement this morning and the initiative they took to listen to industry stakeholders. Alberta has the best renewable resource in the country and there has never been a better time to advance the full complement of this province’s energy resources than now.”

– Grant Arnold, President & CEO, BluEarth Renewables

“I am absolutely thrilled. This is the most positive announcement in the history of renewables in Alberta. It creates investor confidence and opens Alberta up to an abundance of global capital. Combined with our world-class renewable resources, I am confident that this will result in the lowest cost renewables we have seen in Canada.”

– Dan Balaban, CEO, Greengate Power
