Pembina Reacts: B.C. mayors call for climate leadership from Liberal and NDP leadership candidates

Matt
Horne, director of British Columbia Energy Solutions for the Pembina Institute,
made the following statement in response to eight B.C. mayors releasing an open
letter to leadership candidates asking them to prioritize the transition to a
low-carbon economy.

"The mayors' letter demonstrates the breadth of support
for continued provincial leadership on climate change and clean energy. It's
impressive to see mayors from Dawson Creek to Campbell River to Vancouver
agreeing that the province needs to build on the steps already taken.

"These leading communities have made substantial efforts
to reduce their climate pollution and attract green jobs. They know as well as
anyone that solutions can work for all regions of the province and all sectors
of the economy if we get serious about tackling the challenge.

"Hopefully the mayors' statement helps spur the contenders
to constructively debate the best ways to build a green economy in British
Columbia."
