Pembina reacts to 2016-17 Alberta Budget

EDMONTON — Simon Dyer, Alberta director, Pembina Institute made the following comments following today’s release of the 2016-17 Alberta Budget.

“Today’s budget shows the government is acting on its promise to make Alberta a climate change leader. It is smart policy to use some of the new revenue generated by Alberta’s carbon levy to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

“The budget allows Alberta to implement its climate leadership plan. It will bring us in line with progressive policies in place around the world by ramping up investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy while supporting a transition to a clean economy.

“The implementation of the carbon levy and rebate system will empower Albertans to make choices to reduce their own contributions to greenhouse gas pollution while ensuring most Alberta families are protected from cost increases and even come out ahead.”

NOTE: Simon Dyer, Alberta director and Sara Hastings-Simon, Clean Economy director, Pembina Institute, are available for comment in the rotunda of the Legislature.
