In conjunction with the 15th International Passive House Open Days 2018, the Pembina Institute is happy to partner with Brookfield Residential in Calgary for the grand opening of its first passive house this weekend.
The Symons Gate Passive Haus – a new three-bedroom, two-bath home with no furnace – is the first passive house built by a major Alberta builder. Heated by the sun, cooled by strategic shading, and powered by a solar array, the 2,435 sq. ft. home in northwest Calgary uses 90 per cent less energy than a typical new home built today.
The Symons Gate Passive Haus will be open from 1 – 5 p.m. during International Passive House Open Days 2018, Nov. 9 – 11. Afterward, scheduled tours will be available for school, community and industry groups, and other interested parties, while members of the public can visit on the first Friday of every month until September 2019.
