This study examines the evolution of public policy with re spect to Mineral Aggregates in Ontario over the past 35 years. The study concludes that the province has no long-term strategy to reduce the impacts of mineral aggregate extraction, and lacks basic information on the state and consumption of the province's aggregate resources. The study examines the approaches taken in other jurisdictions facing major public conflicts over the environmental impacts of aggregate extraction, and makes recommendations for the implementation of an aggregate resources conservation strategy in Ontario.
